Forgiveness says that someone did something that is worthy of judgement and that thing was now paid for by someone else on behalf of the person who did something worthy of judgement. That person is no longer guilty but pronounced innocent because the debt they incurred has now been paid for. A person receives forgiveness when they recognize the vileness of what they have done and discover it is something worthy of judgement. This person then wants the condemnation and curse removed from their life. They then accept the payment made on their behalf through Jesus Christ. When a person accepts this payment on their behalf, they no longer want the curse and condemnation to come back so they stay away from the causes of that curse and condemnation to walk in the freedom of a fresh new start. Forgiveness is accessed through faith in Christ and shown in the abiding work of Christ Jesus through the Holy Spirit. When someone receives true forgiveness, they don't want to go back into sin because they know its depravity. Would a cancer victim like to go back to their cancer? Would a sick person like to get sick again? No! Instead they enjoy their freedom. Now we might forget the pain of sin and fall back into it. But a forgiven person can't stay there for long because they have tasted true freedom. When you want to be free of your sin and its effects, you have to be willing to give it up in exchange for pardon. God through Christ will take away sin and give you grace. he will take away your curse and give you life. Will you let go of your sin today for Jesus. Those things can not satisfy. God can. God loves you that he offers forgiveness and true life. Come to Jesus today by accepting him as your Lord and Savior and ask him for forgiveness by surrendering your sin to the one who paid the debt and take his life in exchange.
